Skipped beats, lots in short time frame

Can someone please calm my nerves, I'm on holiday so can't see the GP right now but I'm back next week so I will.
I've just had an episode of skipped beats/heart feels like it's jumping in my throat/chest. I've had the off skipped beat before but this has been going on for about 20 mins and I feel panicked! No cheat pain or any other symptoms. I have the fibricheck app so I've been checking my heart rhythm since they started. It all says normal rhythm, although I feel like it isn't normal! I can see the odd extra beats on the graph.

Should I be worried? My heart rate is high but I am very anxious and just ate a bit meal (88bpm). BP normal.

I'm 43 and wondering if this could be peri? And has anyone experienced this where they feel that their heart rate is not regular?^^

Abroad holiday? If U.K. you can register with a local practice as a temporary resident.
Peri does cause this though, as does low iron or thyroid issues.

@LearnSomeSocialSkills I'm in Spain.

I will get those things checked when I get back. I am anemic, Hb 10.5, ferritin 15, but I've never had so many skipped beats in such a small space of time before (and where I felt them so strongly). They seem to have calmed down for now.

Not sure if it's worth mentioning that I've come on my period today (usually very heavy on day 2) and it's 38 degrees here. Wondering if any of this could have an affect?

The heat could have affected you. Even slight dehydration can affect your balance of electrolytes and cause those symptoms.

Greysowhat · 15/08/2025 20:02

Take some magnesium.

15 is quite low. I was getting it and I was 18. I’ve been taking supplements and it’s improving

Do you suffer from anxiety? The way you structure your messages suggests you do.

Have you been drinking alcohol? Alcohol affects your heart rate, as does anxiety.

YellowZebraStripes · 16/08/2025 07:43

Could this be electrolyte imbalance if the weather is hot?

Danny46811 · 18/08/2025 07:19

@Sundaymorningcalla I do suffer from anxiety and I have had alcohol on my holiday. I haven't had any more skipped beats since posting this so I'm going to keep a close eye on this and see if it's still happening when I return back to the UK.

I get this occasionally and it seems to be after eating a big meal. I did Google it and it seems to be fairly common and triggered by blood flow being diverted to the digestive process.
