Painless lump on tongue

Hi all,

I will be ringing the dentist tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what this could be?

I have a white solid lump on tongue which has gradually increased in size. There is no pain on my tongue, just concerned as it seems to be getting bigger. I’ve worked myself up thinking it’s cancer, I will be trying to get an appointment with dentist but that is hard enough in itself.

also fyi, no risks of any STIs as I know that’s come up when I’ve googled it.

I've seen something almost identical on a small child (an ex neighbour). I believe they were referred by their GP to hospital to keep it monitored over a long period. Apparently it vanished then appeared again and hospital monitored its size. I believe it ultimately vanished and there were no repercussions. You're doing the right thing by getting it checked out, but just to let you know that I've seen a benign outcome.

I would echo the previous poster that you are definitely doing the right thing by getting it checked out.

However, my DD had exactly this on her tongue when she was about 13. Was spotted by the dentist who referred her to a ENT specialist. She eventually had it surgically removed under a local anaesthetic. They didn’t really know what it was either but it was biopsied and was completely benign. They said as she was young and had never smoked it was highly unlikely to be anything ominous.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Thank you all, I had it checked out, they said it wasn’t nothing serious thankfully xx
