We went to Menorca 3 weeks ago and it was damp at night, Callum started coughing on the 2nd week. We thought it was because it was damp. We came home last monday and 2 days ago he had a large coughing fit, couldn't catch his breathe, eyes watering and lots of clear stuff came up. When to out of hours and they said that his throat, chest and ears were all clear. He is still coughing and we are having to pat his back and walk about with him to clear it. How can he have a cough with a clear chest?

oh no

sympathies.

one thing....my DS1 was apparently ok, coughing but clear chest, high temp however....

he had pneumonia, which they only picked up once they xrayed his chest!!!

now, I am not suggesting that callum has this, he may be ok, but if you are worried, ask for a second opinion please.......was only cos my DS1 was my 4th, and I pushed, that they listened and I was proven right....

goodness knows what may have happened had he been my first

go to the docs in the morning.....

you are his mum, you are worried, you count more than they do!!!!

He is fine in himself.. I have just googled and I think it might be his reflux.. He has had it since birth

ooh....reflux...

hidious thing...three of mine suffered, plus me

yes, you may be right, and damp soes aggravate it too!!!!

I hope he improves....xx

SparklyGothKat · 29/05/2008 00:52

DIdn;t know that damp can make it worse, I guess I should go back to GP and get some more reflux meds it was getting better, and he has been more sicky the last few weeks.. bugger..

I wonder if he is inhaling the milk and thats making him cough. It comes out of nowhere, he is fine and then 'cough, cough, splutter, gasp, gasp' It scared the kids the other day, I was ready to dial 999...

with mine aggraveted theirs, plus, each of my refluxers have beem the ones to have pnuemonia!!!!

don;t know why TBH, I just kow that with refuxers they do tend to inhale it (or seem like it), which is terrifying, and for DD3, I did do the 999 call....several times...was horrible, she seemed as tho she was not going to breathe again

she is 9 now tho, and over it all, if that is any help.......was hell at the time, but the meds helped, as did good sympathy, and we got thro her, DS1 and DS2 with confirmed reflux....DD2 we think did, but was not confirmed nor on meds....but she did however suffer with her chest, so I do think there is a conection!

Psychomum5 · 29/05/2008 00:59

missed the damp at the beginning there...sorry

SparklyGothKat · 29/05/2008 01:02

Dh was patting his back, I was just scared.. going 'should I call 999?' He has just had another coughing fit about 40 mins ago. I will ask the GP to see him, and get his chest xrayed (just on case)

he is fine in himself though, no temp. feeding ok, bit off his solids, but that might be because it was something he didn't like lol!

good luck....

he may be ok, but I would say, given that he was a preemie, plus he has reflux......get him checked....err on the side of caution and your mummy instinct!!!

SparklyGothKat · 29/05/2008 01:15

Thanks Will report back once we get seen by the GP tomorrow. I am sure the Out of hours GP thought I was wasting her time.
