Does anyone have any experience, knowledge, advice on GROMMETS? DS1 15mths, has had so may ear infections and AB that if he has any more then he has to be referred to ENT with the possibility of grommets.

Have read up on it so kinda know what the score is, just wondered about some first hand experiences?

Grommets brilliant once they have glue ear (first set for dd at 22 months). Has the gp swabbed the infection to check that relevant antibs given?

Jaysfinished · 28/05/2008 11:56

My ds now 2.5yrs had grommets put in when he was 19mths due to persistent ear infections/ glue ear. Hearing improved within a couple of months. He did suffer from a couple of ear infections during the winter, but not as bad as the previous years, less pain as discharge was able to escape through grommets (cleared up with ear drops). He has now been infection free for 3 months and one grommit has fallen out! but so far so good. I also gave him goats milk from 19months but he has decided he dosen't want milk anymore.

swabbing -test which microbe is causing the infection, there are some quite specific ab eardrops available.(We are also on goats milk nowadays due to reflux)

Jaysfinished · 28/05/2008 15:35

ok, Goats milk it is, as from tomorrow when i can get out!

Will ask DR for swabbing, should another infection occur, and prior to referral.

Thanks for your opinions ladies

Took dd1 to a homeopath after her 3rd or 4th infection

Hasn't had one since

Goats milk reduces the mucus and has worked miracles for me and many other friends who LO suffered from ear infections x

ds1 and ds3 had repeated ear infections. Ds1 had loads of antibs- ds3 had none. Can't say it made much difference not giving them. Both grew out of them somewhere near the age of 3.
