How to manage infected skin

DD14 has ASD/anxiety and is a skin picker. She also struggles with acne and the combination is a nightmare. She’s had several skin infections but now the doctor has diagnosed MRSA and swabs have shown that it has spread within the family (sharing a hairbrush with her sister etc).

The whole family has been prescribed a body wash/ creams etc and everything needs washed on hot daily. I’m feeling completely overwhelmed by how to manage this - and distressed about how to manage this moving forward. DD needs a lot of support anyway to manage her personal hygiene and self care. I need to help her understand how serious an infection this is- without her freaking out. ( when I am freaking out too)

Has anyone got any tips on how we can manage it - get on top of it and don’t just keep passing it around?

Although not lifelong; some people will be carriers despite treatment.
So do your best, use the special soaps, avoid sharing towels, lots of washing your hands.
Maybe request accutane for the acne?

Agree no sharing towels, brushes, etc. I would be hot washing everything with nappy sanitiser after every use for a while tbh (PITA) and drying in the sun. (Lucky it’s summer). Fidget spinners, computer terminals, phones, iPads, etc all need frequent sanitation with wipes. Maybe encourage use of fidget spinners and fiddly things to distract from picking. (Crochet is popular with the young ones atm) Easier said than done, keep her busy and way from internet and mirrors. Poor kid.

Oooh— Chuck out makeup brushes and sponges (probably makeup too). It will be festering germs. Start again.
