Dentist can’t get my tooth out, will gas help?

I am getting restorative dentistry, and in the UK. 30 and. Female. Epileptic and on methadone for opiate dependency (not heroin) and autistic. My dentist can’t cope with my teeth so referred me to hospital where I’m seeing a dentist who is good with patients with autism and special needs and bad teeth.

I am not really a nervous patient, far from it I’ve had that many procedures, most of my teeth are gone now. Unfortunately I have extremely hard to remove molars and I had to have one extracted. Went into the hospital yesterday.

He kept jabbing me but couldn’t numb me. He tried to pull but I was still in pain. He said the tooth is mildly infected but antibiotics wouldn’t hit it as it’s a dead tooth. I’ve also been on antibiotics an LOT (compromised immune system) and don’t want to become resistant. Essentially it’s got a huge filling that’s pressing on the nerve and too much of the tooth has gone to do RCT.

He tried forceps after the last jabs but again I was in pain. I had about 6-7 injections. So he had to stop and give up after all the pulling.

He said it was partially due to my nerves (as in me being nervous, not my tooth nerves!) which made me feel a bit rubbish, as despite it being unpleasant I was relatively ok. Another dentist (old one who’s left) at my old practice jabbed near my throat and numbed me eventually. However this dentist wouldn’t listen when I mentioned this.

He’s having me back next month to try again only using laughing gas. Never had this before, but I don’t
understand how it’s going to numb me any better, and make them take my tooth out any easier. It’ll just calm me down surely and I was calm already.

Just to say I am v overweight (22stone) was 24 but recently lost 2 stone in weight due to mounjaro. I don’t know if this has affected things although as I said I’ve had teeth out before when I was heavier.

For crap teeth, I have massive roots and I’ve been told this can be a problem.

Can anyone tell me if this will just be a waste of time? And if they can’t do it, what next?

my cheek is still swollen on the inside

Don’t think it’s full sedation. Just laughing gas
