and scratches and pulls on them and leave it all red and terribly painful looking. She does have patches of dry skin on her body but never really tried to itch them. What could be causing this?

OP posts:

put yourself in her place
you'd have a good scratch too

is she drinking enough fluid? does she have dark coloured urine?

and hats off to you for using vulva and not vagina as is so commonly misused these days

and

I know nothing as I have two boys but I hope someone more sensible and less attention seeking can come along and answer your query soon

lulumama · 25/05/2008 15:01

she might be itchy! do you use any cream on her when you change her?

if she is prone to dry skin, then her vulva might well be itchy.

and she cannot get to it until her nappy comes off

how old is she?

BarbaraWoodlouse · 25/05/2008 15:04

How old is she. My DD (17 months) has just started grabbing there as soon as her nappy comes off. I don't think it's itchy though as it's not red or sore looking, I think she's just discovered another bit of herself that she didn't know was there.

Does make me wince though.

several things could be causing this from simple irritation due to wet nappy and urine on skin to other things like a dose of thrush.
If it looks and red and sore, is not cleared up after a couple of days with careful washing, very frequent nappy changes and maybe a little sudocream, consider speaking to your GP. They might want to test for thrush or an internal infection.
My friend?s little DD had thrush as a very small baby with similar symptoms.
hth and good luck getting it cleared up for her

get a grip , cod, even you have a vulva

or should the OP have said foofoo , thus ensuring a 500 + thread about the correct words for female genitalia??

BagelBird · 25/05/2008 15:11

I thought the title would have been something Cod would have approved: to the point, no messing about

foofo

suzywong · 25/05/2008 15:14

well if she said " she grabs her extra jumbo sized vulva" then all hell would have broken loose.

oh no, candida is far more boden than vulva.

SmugColditz · 25/05/2008 15:20

She doesn't itch it, she scratches it

Whatever it is...

Try using zinc and castor oil cream at each nappy change, it's very soothing.

brightongirldownunder · 25/05/2008 15:49

Theres a special remedy over here (Oz) that I know you can buy in the UK too - I'll go and get the correct name tomorrow but its made with Paw paw and is in a red tube. Supposed to be great.
Icod - I've been feeling very low today and you have made me laugh so much. Can we have an icod fanclub please? Maybe I'll start a new thread that all the saddoes like me can join and worship the icod!

susiecutiebananas · 25/05/2008 16:02

My DD also does this. As soon as her nappy is off. It also makes me wince. The other day she was having such a good root around that her finger went up i was horrified that she could do that. she didn't even wince.

I'm assured by others that it is perfectly normal, and it is just because they've found it, and of course, the more I try to stop her, the more she does it. SO i ignore it now. HAd to say the finger disappearing was difficult to ignore, the nappy went straight back on. Especially as she was also jabbing at it all with a giraffe... I could just imagine that one on the A&E notes!

brightongirldownunder · 25/05/2008 16:03

I know you can get it in the Uk miss wong - do you know how much the flippin post is over here? Anyway it takes bloomin ages for things to get to UK. Its obviously an emergency as the poor little mite is scratching her fangita. Look up on google. If you lived in brighton I'd say go to dolphin health as they def stock it. I'll post the proper name tomorrow.

susiecutiebananas · 25/05/2008 16:03

my DD is 16months old BTW - not that that makes any difference!
