Horrendous gum pain and toothache

I had a filling two weeks ago after I chipped a tooth (upper back). A day or two later my bite didn’t feel right and I was unable to bite down properly. The gums also started to hurt (top and bottom). I returned to the dentist and she altered the bite. Hasn’t helped and the pain, both in the tooth, and the gum is horrible. I have an awful taste in my mouth too.

Dentist has said I need a root canal for which I need a referral to a specialist. I can’t go on in this pain. Has anyone experienced this and it got better? I feel like it’s not going away. I have got amoxicillin now but not helping at all.

do I have the tooth removed in the hope that will solve all the issues? All felt fine until I had my filling

Sit tight and wait for the antibiotics to work, rotate cocodomol and ibuprofen, when the infection is gone get a root canal. Saving your teeth is always better than extraction as you'll need an implant to replace the lost tooth to prevent further issues down the line.
