What could be making me so dizzy this morning?

I've been up for about 6 hours and have been incredibly dizzy. The severity wavers from swimming vision and faintness to mild dizzyness and woozy feeling but I'm a bit worried. I don't want to pick up my dd because I feel like I'll fall over, and for a whole 6 hours can't be right can it?

(just for reference, I had some cereal and a drink of water and I slept ok last night)

any ideas?

inner ear infection?

migraine?

pregnant?

Heated · 25/05/2008 12:54

An ear infection can upset your balance and make you feel sea sick.

lackaDAISYcal · 25/05/2008 12:56

have you stopped taking medicine recently? I went cold turkey with my ADs and felt like I was seasick for about four days...vertigo type sensations if I looked out of the corner
of my eye or turned my head.

ruthmollymummy · 25/05/2008 12:56

did a pregnancy test this morning! i had the same thought - not due for two days i think but it came up negative. [slightly grumpy face]
i don't feel like I have a headache would my ears not hurt if i had an ear infection?

ruthmollymummy · 25/05/2008 12:58

I had labyrinthitus (inner ear infection) and that was like you described, go to the docs.

janeite · 25/05/2008 13:00

There is a horrid bug thing going around which consists of blurred vision, headache, dizziness and nausea, plus feeling really, really cold. Four of us at work have had it, plus dd2 - tis not nice.

just phoned nhs 24, waiting for a ring back. Thanks all

Almost certainly labrynthitis which is very nasty and feels like being seasick.

Painful ears are not a symptom, despite it being a problem in the inner ear....apart form me of course who was admitted to hospital as the pain was so bad

Travel sick pills are usually the best thing, but these need to be given by docs. Do NOT drive.

If you need any more advice, ask away...I had the thing for 3 months, and needed special exercises to get rid of it!

ruthmollymummy · 25/05/2008 13:44

I'll take you up on that fizzbuzz! I've only held my 9mo once and almost dropped her, obv a worry, is it likely to continue being this bad for a while? Should I just get over myself and carry her around as normal - i haven't actually fallen over though I've felt close!

ruthmollymummy · 25/05/2008 13:46

btw nhs 24 doc said its prob labrynthitis - you clever MNers!

I wouldn't carry her tbh, you may feel as if the floor is rolling around. If you do carry her, hold onto a wall whilst moving to giv you some stability. (That means you can cuddle her a lot on the sofa though)

Also try to avoid lying down if you can. See docs on Tue, they will give you something to stabilise you

electricbarbarella · 25/05/2008 20:27

i did fall over several times, I also didn't want to go to bed as the sensation was so unpleasant if I turned over in my sleep. Hope you feel better soon.

I had exactly the same thing yesterday. Lasted for the day but I felt fine this morning. Have also had headache, stomach upset and felt very cold so I'm guessing it's a virus in my case. You have my sympathy - it's really horrible feeling dizzy.
