Hemorrhagic Cyst - why does pain come and go?

Hi everyone,

Around two months ago it was confirmed that I have a hemorrhagic cyst on my left ovary. I initially went in for an ultrasound due to irregular periods, and this is what was found. My GP was surprised that I’d experienced no pain from it up to that point.

Several weeks went by and I did start to experience pain. This has gradually gotten worse, when last week it was so bad I couldn’t move around. I just sat on the sofa with a hot water bottle and had as many painkillers as I could get.

I spoke to my GP again, and they’ve reffered me for another ultrasound, which I have now booked for Wednesday. However the pain over the last couple of days hasn’t been too bad, much less than before.

I’ve noticed this is a pattern. Some weeks it is incredibly painful, and others I barely notice it. Why is this? Can the cyst grow/shrink due to hormonal levels during the month? Starting to think I’m going mad!

Haven’t got any advice I’m afraid but my daughter is in a similar boat- possible haemorrhaging cyst following a laparoscopy but two scans have given inconsistent results. She too has a lot of pain but some days worse than others with no real pattern.
