My Fitness Pal

So I’ve been using Noom on and off for a few years for free. Having had a few issues with the latest update I uninstalled & reinstalled the app only to discover that you can no longer track steps and log meals for free, you have to subscribe.

I have decided to give My Fitness Pal a try instead and it seems a little more complicated to use and I cannot get it to track my steps.

If I click on steps it gives the options of not tracking, tracking using my iphones inbuilt pedometer or connecting a device. I have the iphones pedometer disabled as I don’t have my phone physically on me for much of the day so any step count it gives would be significantly lower than my actual step count. My smartwatch and its app are not a compatible device.

Google tells me that I should be able to sync to the apple health app as an intermediary and use the step count from there but I cannot get this to work. I have given the relevant permissions to My Fitness Pal in the apple health app. But this does nothing. If I go into ‘more’ on MFP select apps & devices then click on apple health it just gives me directions on how I need to go to the health app and give permissions which I have already done. I have tried turning my phone off and on, uninstalling and re-installing the app, turning permissions off then back on and no change.

Can anyone tell me why the two are not communicating despite permissions as its driving me up the wall and the app is pointless if I can’t calibrate calorie intake based on steps taken.

Thank you.

Don’t add your exercise to MFP, it gives you the (wildly overestimated) calories back to eat. It’s the only time I stalled, and it took me a while to figure out what was going on.
You know your walking for your fitness, your iPhone will know how many steps you’ve walked, MFP doesn’t need to know.

I agree. Only use it for your eating calories. Steps barely make a difference anyway
