I have shingles...any tips to make things more comfortable.

I saw my GP this morning who confirmed I have shingles and gave me Aciclovir tablets.

I have had fever and chills and of course some seriously itchy large, burning rash on my belly for the past couple of days.

It is so painful and tiring!

I was already on sick leave for burnout/depression and this is really not helping.

I think my body/immune system are just exhausted all around.

Anyone has any tips to try to make things a bit more comfortable while the medication hopefully takes effect?

If you had shingles how long did it take for you to feel better after starting treatment?

Glad to hear you’re doing a bit better, OP. Don’t overdo it, y’hear??!

Agree that Sudocrem is very good. For everything.

i had this and was painful six months ago and now left with serious nerve damage, anyone who had chicken pox should have the vaccine in adult hood, but the NHS GP told me they cant afford to give it to anyone under 65 due to lack of funding !!! only via private GP which costs £550

How long ago did you have the vaccine, @TidyDeer?

Hope you feel better soon.

TidyDeer · 13/12/2025 08:12

In fairness, it was about 5 years ago ! That I had the Vaccine !

Oh dear, @TidyDeer. The only 'comfort' is that your shingles now would have been worse if you hadn't had the vaccination then. Hope you recover quickly 🌷
