Advice please re constant snotty/runny nose in 2 yr old

My ds has had a more or less constant runny/snotty nose since he started nursery. Has also had several chest infestions. The doctors have advised me that this is normal for children who attend nursery and will clear up when he is about 5. My dm is giving me a hard time about not getting ds referred to an ear, nose throat person. Has anyone else had the same experience? What is normal and what isn't?

My 2yr old is the same since he started play group - this year also seems a bad one for bugs!

Coffeebean - thanks for the reassurance - difficult isn't it!

Yes same here. One cold/chest infection after another. i guess they are just building up their immune systems.

same here. dd has had a runny nose off and on for the last few months and chesty coughs too. She's 2.2 and said to me yesterday she was fed up of her snotty nose bless her

My son is also 2 and has had a cold followed by a snotty nose and chesty cough since end of Nov. He seems well, but still has a chesty cough about twice a day, and about once at night. He is well in every other way, eats brilliantly and seems full of beans. It is starting to go, and he's learning to blow his nose, which is something! I was also wondering if I should do more, or let the cold work its way out (as it does seem to be doing so).
