DH has patch of skin on neck where hair has suddenly stopped growing

He just noticed this last week, on his neck just below the chin. There is no bristle, nothing. It's about the size of a large thumbprint.

Any ideas what it could be?

Has he had a sore there previously? DD2 recently had very bad impetigo and she is left with a patch like you desribe on the top of her head.
