Bottom pain

Hi - i'm getting some weird pain/discomfort in my bottom that I can't quite place and DrGoogle isn't helping. It started a couple of months ago - it felt almost like pressure in my back passage, worse before needing to go, but then irritated afterwards. Also discomfort around my tailbone area. I almost can't really pin point it - FIT test was negative but no real bowel issues anyway. Steroid suppositories did nothing so I don't think it's internal haemorrhoids. A bit of nausea but perimenopausal so that's been going on for a while - just waves for a minute or two a few times a day, so nothing to pin point. Anyone had anything like this? It's sort of pressure, sort of numb/tingly, somewhere deep but near tailbone.

I get something like this too. It starts as a dull ache and then intensifies. Comes on at different times, sometimes in the middle of the night, waking me up, sometimes when walking etc. It becomes very painful. I don't think it's javelin arse, as it's not a sharp pain, but an ache that becomes very intense. When I mentioned it to my gp years ago they said IBS. It's not! I take painkillers immediately, sometimes sit on a heated wheat pillow, which seems to help.

I came on to say mine has gone too……….. Did we have a weird virus that makes something happen to your coccyx/rectum?!

missboots · 04/06/2025 19:17

@Pompompurin1 that would be the weirdest virus! But these days, you never know!!

I keep getting this too. Dull ache and sometimes spasming. Been for a colonoscopy which was clear. Did anyone find any solutions or anything that eased it? I do wonder if its muscular and stress related but its driving me mad!

I had an appointment in the end with a consultant who confirmed it wasn’t a Hemorrhoid after all like the gp said but a peri-anal haematoma so the Hemorrhoid creams would never have helped. It’s gone now - just needed time. A big relief for me to get seen.

That must be a big relief to have had answers and its gone.
I thought it was hemorrhoids at first but the colonoscopy says not. It doesn't seem as bad as it was a month ago but it does seem to flare up. Got another appointment with the doctor next week.

Mine is back! After suddenly disappearing 2m ago. Not as bad this time. I wonder if this is “coccydinia”… off to google. Anyone else have it intermittently ? I worked sat in bed on my laptop on Sat morning as wasn’t feeling great, perhaps that wasn’t a good idea.

Chased up my pelvic physio / bowel & bladder referral (all under one service) and im approx 50% of the way through a 20 week waiting list.
