Head pressure, skin sensations, fatigue (worried)

I’m feeling really low after six weeks of illness. It all started with a UTI, and a chest virus, which developed into a rushing/ pressure sensation in my head with lightheadedness wooziness and almost like a shock response. My hands feel stiff, my lips and face feel numb and sensitive, I get freezing cold and shaky. I’ve also had some pins and needles in various places.

Over the six weeks I’ve had episodes nearly every day, or every other day. With some odd days where I’ve felt nearly normal too.

Ive been signed off work to try to ‘get better’ as my concentration focus and eyesight were struggling. I am so fatigued, I can feel it in my arms and legs and head. My eyes are also struggling to coordinate (optician) and I get blurry vision.

More recently I’ve had sinus pain, IBS symtpoms and hot and cold spots on my body. I’ve also started to get a strange feeling come over me as I’m going to sleep and will have strange skin crawling/ twitching/ melting sensation all over for hours. If I sleep well I wake feeling shaky and groggy. The less I sleep the better I feel.

Very recently I’ve lost my appetite. I get the feeling of hunger but I don’t fancy anything to eat. I’ve lost a few pounds over the six weeks.

I've had 3 x blood tests, ECG, CT, and have been referred to a neurologist and for an MRI. The only thing flagged on the bloods was low ferritin of 25, and low vitamin d. But I was totally fine before the virus and presumably the levels would have been the same. B12 was on the lower end of normal but still fine. Same with folate. CT fine.

This illness is ruining my life and I have two small children to look after and a job to hold down x I feel so low and emotional and I’m just looking for some people to connect with/ who can sympathise or talk to me about what might be going on.

Doctors are a bit perplexed and suggestion it could be post viral syndrome but with no direction on how to get better 😢😢

I would start with taking a tonic like Metatone which is really good for post viral fatigue. Also magnesium if you don't take it already. The crawling feeling I've had before with Covid,it's not nice, presumed it was a nerve thing.

Low feratin and vit B can make you feel awful so look into boosting those.

MoneyBall1 · 09/05/2025 05:24

It sounds v similar to how my long Covid started. Whatever you do don’t push yourself. Rest as much as you can. Definitely supplement your iron and B12 as both can make you feel rubbish. 25 is low for ferritin so get some iron supplements. Good luck with the MRI!

Thank you everyone. Every day I feel like I’m getting weaker, I’ve lost weight. Yet bloods are normal. Next stage is a lumber puncture the same day emergency doctors said, or they could push for my MRI, but they said it feels like post viral recovery.

I'm worried about post viral neuro inflammation and de conditioning as I’m not very big anyway. Also freaking out about these movements I seem to be having at night, like my eyes are jerking away from each other and it’s hurting the centre of my forehead.

@MoneyBall1 did your long Covid start soon after the virus or months after? I had a bad bout of Covid last May and this most recent virus wasn’t Covid but seems to have triggered this response in my body. It’s so scary!

I had a Covid infection in October 2022 and it was August 2023 when I really realised what was happening. Looking back I had some signs before then (fatigue, continual illness) but in August I became very ill and only at that point put 2 and 2 together.

it’s always worth getting other conditions checked out first before concluding it is post viral so I’m glad they are being thorough

I had similar and was tested for MS. For me it turned out to be stress. As I calmed eventually it abated.

@Notsandwiches @MoneyBall1 thanks for your comments both. Trying to put together a complex picture (don’t know why I’m so obsessed with understanding what’s happening with my body). But, I’m thinking heavy periods caused the low ferritin and vitamin D along with breastfeeding my youngest (sorry if TMI). That run my immune system down and led to me getting ill, then I’ve either had tension headaches, nerve pain or some underlying infection (sinus or otherwise), which the Amitriptaline and antibiotics are helping with. But the Amitriptaline is now giving side effects (have read on here it can actually cause sleep disturbances and muscle twitching) and my body is still recovering? All meanwhile I’m still trying to get my iron up? it could be a mix of things I guess 😣
