Is my cough improving? Should I be worried?

2 and a half weeks ago I got a terrible cold and it was followed with a wet cough, I was coughing at least once every 3-4 mins and I still have it today, however I’m now coughing around once every 8-10 mins and my cough is not as phlegmy. My phlegm is clear.

Should I start to worry about this cough as it’s approaching 3 weeks now?

Always safer to discuss with GP when you have an ongoing cough; or pharmacist for opinion. That said my hubby had Covid 3 weeks ago and although is now well has a lingering cough (he also has asthma); just saying to reassure you this might not be anything serious, but safer to discuss health professional.

Viral coughs can last for up to 6 weeks, although in reality many last for longer than this. Without other concerning symptoms eg coughing up blood, fever, night sweats, weight loss etc the advice is usually watch & wait & review after 6 weeks. However if you are worried do get checked out

They say 4 weeks for a cough. I got very frustrated with a GP last year as I had waited 5 weeks, never had a cough that long ended up with antibiotics. But when I went back to weeks later as still coughing, she was like it can take a good 4 weeks to clear up. She said that just as I was leaving and I didn't get time to point out it had been over 6 weeks, at lest she did give me a second dose of antibiotics which finally cleared it up.

Note if you can't walk upstairs without having a coughing fit it maybe a chest infection. That was the only difference I had from a normal cough.
