Surgery recovery - fissure

Hi,
My partner has surgery for an anal fissure three weeks ago. It took a long time to get a diagnosis and treatment and he's been suffering for around two years.
The aftercare from surgery has been non-existent. This week is the worst yet and he's in agony. He's self-employed and can't possibly work.
Any advice/experiences would be greatly received. He's called the consultant's secretary: on holiday last week and only able to leave a voicemail today.
I don't know what I can do to help him?

Heat could help - I used wheat bags or hot water bottles nearly constantly. Painkillers - I had dihydrocodiene for about a week, then co-codamol but they really need to be taken with something to help the constipation. Rest rest rest, Im 5 years down the line; I promise it gets better.
