My ds is still not well - i am really fed up, sorry long post

He had his MMr a few weeks back (he is now 18months old) - on day 8 it wiped him out and to add to his miserableness he sounded like he had a chedst inf. so was prescribed a course of ant biotics which seemed to do the job - he fin the course on the Tue and on Wed started with an awful night time cough, last Mon i took him to the docs again and he gave an inhaler to try for 3 nights - 2 nights brill then the 3rd night he was all moaney again so dont know if it was something new he had picked up at nursery? On Thus back at docs who has now given him a 7 day course of steroids as he said he still didnt seem to have shifted ch inf. - he seemed to perk up and went back to nursery yesterday where they said he was a bit off after his pm sleep and sure enough last night we had a restless night and today we went to a wedding and he was well off form so we came home early. Refused his tea tonight and was shivering - cold and went blue on cheeks, calpoled up and he improved and colour returned to face - dh said he was shattered and has took him out for a walk in the buggy to dry and get him some kip. The colour has returned to normal in his cheeks but we were on the brink of an a and e visit.

Not due back at docs now will Thus but am v anxious and just want my little boy to be 100% again. Any medical experts there?

I have also just read steroids make him prone to inf. so will keep him of nursery this week. (he is 18 months old) cute but whiney.......

Sorry about the crap grammer and long post btw but as i said im wrecked with it all - me and dh are going to murder each other at this rate!

Poor you, that sounds horrible! I don't know if this helps, but DS and I recently had the most horrendous flu with a nasty cough and chest infection etc. It took AGES to shift, it's one of those really long lasting ones, and the cough took about two-three weeks to go in the end. Does this sound similar?

If it does, just wanted to say that we did get over it, so it does go away in the end!

All this might be compounded by teething?

My Ds2 is 14 mos, hasn't had his MMR yet, but has been reeeally poorly off and on lately, it's awful, I feel for you.

He has come back in now refusing sleep, refused his pizza or bread but has just yomped down a yogurt. I feel a pea sized amount better but generally like a crap mother as i just end up shouting at the rest of the family! He has all his teeth but the last nasty 4 so i guess they could be lingering.......

I will brace myself fo a long haul but just expected steroids to be fast acting and make my boy well .

Off to offer cake......and take deep breaths - bedtime at 7 so the end is near for today.........

LMD what worked for you and ds in the end then or was it just time? DS chest doesnt seem bad now hes just really miserable......... He has woolfed back 8oz milk and some calprofen and is now settled in bed.....

have you tried rubbing vicks on his chest and/or Olbas oil (both brands have a 'for kids' version) to help his breathing?

I have just gone in to do as we have vicks kicking about but his breathing seemed quiet and he was zonked so didnt want to disturb him........

Hoping a god nights sleep will see him better [hopeful]

Sorry, had to go and do dinner and bed! we used a cough medicine which helped loosen his chest and also helped him get a better night's sleep - think it had a decongestant in it as well, think it was Tixylix, but mostly it was just time.

It did take a while though! hope your LO has a good night and you all feel better. It can all feel very overwhelming can't it?

Yup completely - i am having a wee tipple now then turning in early.... hope tomorrow is sunny as its rained all day today so at lest we can get out and have a walk.....

That would be the cough mixtures they have now banned lol!

DD 16 months, not had MMR yet as has had constant illnesses since November so waiting for a clear spell. If she had, I might be thinking all sorts of horrible stuff, because she is whiney and grouchy. A couple of weeks ago she wouldn't go to sleep without screaming and crying for 5 days, and iburofen helped a little but not totally. Has had on/off temps up to 39 also, causing lots of phone calls from nursery. It has been molars.
So, please don't worry about MMR. I think it's their age/viral infections/teething.
A woman I know told me her son vomited/diahorhhea (I know the spelling's rubbish), really bad nappy rash, fever, etc etc, so I figure I have it easy in comparison.

He may not want to chew if his jaw is achey, and it will make his ears ache too. The chest infection sounds horrible, but I'm sure he'll be better soon. Have you tempted him with ice-cream? Or home-made fruit sorbets nice for sore teething/throats.

Im not worried its mmr related i think its just been one ting after another and obv his immunity is down or nil so he is open to allsorts especially with nursery. I have tried to look in and i cant see any molars peeping but then they dont do they - they just niggle on forever!

I remember similar with my dd though she coped better i think..... when they turn 3 it all gets better i recall - hmm 18 months to go - oh well half way there!

so last night he slept till half 2 for a mini grizzle then went back of after calpol - slept or well stayed in bed till 10 to 9 - woke up miserable, refused breakfast, sat destroying things at mo with intermitent radges but calm enough. Looked like he had ulcers in corner of mouth this am when i was tryign to lure him with weetabix. Tongue white and smooth. Anyway steroids seem to have kicked in for a bit.... DH off fishing all day today so off out.....

Have you thought he may have thrush in his mouth.Alot of AB can give them thrush,which would make eating uncomfortable.

he fin the antib's well over 10 days ago and now just on steroids and calpol/ nurofen.... will that require me to go to docs to get something to fix it then or is there no remedy other than what he already taking? Sorry for being thick.......

If it is thrush he will need some more meds.With thrush it doesn't wipe off,like milk would.Maybe worth getting it checked.

Hiya basicaly after his mid day kip he went right off - screamed for 2 hrs so been to emergency docs at hosp who confirmed he still has chest inf. and thrush - explained to us that gp was really responsible for him but the gp probs didnt give stronger ant'bs as didnt want to increase chances of thrush but as he has that now anywya he gave us some ant b;s which we started tonight. Anywya also gave prescript for thrush drops.......... However, chemist which is a zillion miles away frm us did the prescrip then told my dh didnt have thrush stuff in so we would have to go to our own docs tomorow to get a prescription for some or drive right back over to him andhe might have back in tomorow after 5 arghhhhhhhh! So my poor little man is still thrushed up but on new ant b's which my gp wil probs moan about tomorow should i be lucky enough to get in to see him! Oh the joys.

I have had a crap day and dh has been fishing all day so i am now refusing to do his ironing and there is a stand off brewing lol!

lol someone mentioned live yogurt - not sure his pettie fillous would qualify!! Will have to go shopping tomorow for the miracle of manuka honey and live yogurt (after the docs of course!!) - not sure if i will find either in our tesco!

Well, last night he had his first antibiotic and i woke at 3am as 8 hrs would have past and gave him another dose - he woke up singing!! He has been so happy this am i have been teary eyed i am so chuffed! Went to docs and got the thrush drops but even that didnt look as bad as it did yesterday.

He has just woolfed down his dinner and gone down for a nap like a dream! (hence im on here!)

Dont know if anti b's could have kicked in so quick or if just coincidence. He still is rattly round the chest but that he is happy is my main thing - back to get checked on Thus but fingers crossed. He is due at nursery wed, th, fri while i go to work so am a bit bothered he will pick something up but what can you do!!??

so glad to hear this.

often the first couple of doses of anti-bs are all that's needed to knock it on the head, and it sounds like he got a good night's sleep.
