Positive stories about the Mirena Coil please!!!!

Had a very persuasive gynecology registrar yesterday, who managed to persuade me to have a Mirena Coil fitted while I was under General anesthetic having my epiostomy scar fixed. As it was always the pain of having it fitted that has put me off in the past, I agreed, but now all I've read on here seem to be negative stories, which are alarming me somewhat!

So come on, there must be some of you out there who like your Mirena?! Please......

ps my current pain and bleeding - is it likely to be related to the Mirena and how long will it last, or more likely related to my scar fix and new stitches? Or probably most likely a bit of both?!

Hi

I loved my mirena, so much so i am having another in 4 weeks after having Millie. the aching and spotting will be a few days yet IME.

After about 5 months i had no periods with my coil, and less pmt. it was great, never had to worry about risk of pg and easy enough to get pg after removal too. I didnt put on weight or have skin problems or naything with it.

Love mine, no problems. Odd spotting, no proper periods. No weight gain or skin problems. Best contraceptive I've used.

Absolutely brilliant. Best thing I ever did - I wished I had done it years before.

I love my mirena - no periods - bliss!!
My sister has it too - loves it and has cured her PMT!

is there an age restriction ..re..hormones etc as im 42 but dont want to have a sterilisation as it means an op..couldnt use pill in the past as i usually had various problems with them so was wondering whether mirena might be the best choice..is it safe to have thse hormones at my age..

solo · 17/05/2008 16:53

No age restriction. I'm 44. Have a friend who is almost 52 with it in.

I'm having probs with mine, but I've got lots of friends who love theirs. I have mood swings, had spotty skin, am now gaining weight and have had 4.6 months of bleeding out of 6 months. I've had mine in for 13 months and am considering having it removed. Sorry.

mine is okay, a get a few spots now (never did before) and unfortunately I still get v v light periods but other than that great

Walkthedinosaur · 17/05/2008 16:56

Yup had mine for the last three years, didn't hurt when it was inserted either. No periods for virtually all of that time, no PMT (that I'm aware of) occasionally get the odd period pain but that's it, haven't really put on weight either. I love it, I will definitely have another when this one is finished.

Sparkletastic · 17/05/2008 16:56

v happy with mine - no pain, monthly very light and short-lived period, much less PMT.

hotCheeseBurns · 17/05/2008 16:58

I've tried pretty much every method of contraception and this has been the only one to work for me. No pain, no blood and hardly any mood swings etc.

Minum · 17/05/2008 17:06

Totally love mine - hate barrier methods, and always had problems remembering pill, so its perfect, and no side effects.

And the light periods are just brill!

cositjustisok · 17/05/2008 17:42

Just had mine in a few weeks ago..cramps lasted a few days after insertion, spotted for a few weeks on and off..now taking my first proper period and already it seem a whole lot lighter..so far all i can say is I really am happy with my decision.

Thank you so much everyone!!! Here's hoping I'm as happy as you all are!!
