I think I have broken my toe. Ouch.

I woke up this morning to find my second toe in feeling a bit odd. I looked at it, and the tip of it is swollen, and it is bent.

It sort of feels, dislocated, the top part has snapped back and there does not appear to be any give in it to push it back.

I dont even know how I did it . I went out last night and had two large glasses of wine, then back to a friends house, had a cup of coffee before home. I was tipsy but not so that I could not recall anything. I was wearing heels, toes enclosed so cant see how I hit it.

But I guess I just must of have knocked it without knowing. My second toe is longer than my big toe so always gets knocked. Guess I just dont notice anymore!

So. Is there anything I can do? Get it snapped back into place?

wow. How is your second toe longer than your big toe?

strap it to next toe.

Pavlovthecat · 17/05/2008 10:18

i dont know how fox. Both of my second toes are. I have very skinny toes and the second toes are skinny and a touch longer than the big ones. Apparantly it means I am meant to be a good dancer . Thats clearly not true!

I do know a couple of people with longer second toes actually !

I think it might have happened in the night? Maybe I got up to go to the loo without really waking up?

When I first looked at it this morning, it was red and swollen at the tip. Now, the whole toe has gone red.

I have, in the past, had a kind of dislocation where the toe bends back, almost like cramp, and I have had to click it back into place. But not the top, this feels 'broken'. Does not hurt too much, but feels odd.

Its all very strange

now it is starting to hurt. And is sort of going a bit purple.

I cant beleive I did not notice it. It seems so sudden. I got up to make a drink then me and DD came back to bed, did not really notice it being sore

.

ooh have just read what you do. How fascinating.

You can go to minor injuries, but all they'll probably do is strap it to the next one .

Take some nurofen. If you are worried, get it looked at.

Pavlovthecat · 17/05/2008 10:37

fox - you mean my job? It is fascinating in theory, in practice it is less so .

I have nothing to strap it with, will put flipflops on and go to the pharmacy.

did you know that having second toes longer that big toes means that you'll never be a proper ballerina? makes it difficult to stand on them or something.
anyway. it is highly likely you have dislocated it. i suggest minor injuries if you PCT hasn't closed it down. or give out of hours dr a ring. anti-inflammetories if you can take them, paracetamol and put it up. what a good excuse not to fill yuor day with housework.

Pavlovthecat · 17/05/2008 10:39

LOL naughty - not that I ever need an excuse to do no housework! DH is at work tho, so some activity on it is required as I cant see my DD staying in front of tele all morning .

I knew there was a reason for not doing ballet at school!

naught - so if it is dislocated, what will they do? pop it back? Minor injury unit will be hectic this morning tho after friday night drunkards (me?!!!) hurting themselves

OP posts:
NaughtyNigella · 17/05/2008 11:14

yes if dislocated can be popped back in and will hurt like buggery - although will hurt if not popped back in. you will need someone with you to watch DD.

Pavlovthecat · 17/05/2008 12:18

can be? Or, should be? Can it wait until monday? Sounds daft, but I got a lot on today! It does not hurt too badly at the moment, unless i catch it.

DH finishes work at 2:30pm, then we got a house viewing, then we got some very old friends coming round for a cup of tea, they live in Denmark and go back tomorrow morning, and have dinner plans this evening so this is the only time we will see them. And, DD and their DD are the same age and we want them to play.

Will I be able to drive afterwards? I could go myself when DH is home, once we been to house viewing, the kids can play and I can go alone if I can drive.

I jiggled it around a bit, see if I could see how it has dislocated, maybe pop it back in myself. Silly idea.

It hurts now!

i bashed mine in the other week, i thought i'd broken it but just left it. i went to a & e eventually but it wasn't broken, hurt like mad for weeks though!

i taped the two toes together and that really helped alot, silly as i should have done that right away.

Pavlovthecat · 17/05/2008 13:26

I will do it in a mo, new Boots pharmacy opened across park, right by us. will go over and take DD for a run around too.

I dont have any tape/bandage etc so need to buy it, maybe get pharmacist to take a look, he can tell me if it is going to fall of if not looked at by a Dr

My DD has bent toes. The second crosses with the third a little. So if I leave it and it stays bent, we can be the freaky toe family. Will have to break DH's toes so he does not feel left out!
