After spine surgery - were you left on long term medication

Hi,

Just nosey if people with other spine conditions treated with surgery are left on medication? I kind of understand why they do it, as I age if I come down with it again they can refuse to operate so maybe this medication along with keeping up activity is somehow helping for the future ease that blow.

I had Cervical Myelopathy (aware this is another spinal condition name they are trying to merge it with) treated really well with surgery, back walking.

I am on Amitriptyline 20mg but I find that I can’t get through the night. Last night I took an antihistamine and that seemed to make things better.

The other week I tried couple of nights taking 3 amtriptyline pills but just woke up with a fussy head no matter how early in the evening taken.

I’m unsure how to get anyone’s medical attention - I’m discharged from the spine consultant and was just informed I’d be on the medication for long term/for life on discharge from hospital.

I went through a pip assessment and who ever carried that sounded surprised that I’ve just been left on it. I’ve relooked at Wegovy medication leaflet and there is nothing there neither. I stopped HRT cold turkey last week and if I had to chose, I chose the weight loss injections over it but the sleep disturbances was happening before that.

Our son had a major back operation beginning of January.
6 tumors removed from his vertebrae. Unfortunately they
cut some nerves so the walking was a slow build up.
Was put on gabapentin 20mg. He took until the end
of march and is now coming off them. As they can
become addictive.

I take dihydrocodeine. Had a discectomy L5/S1 due to cauda equina, 5hr op and left with some numbness

Oh I’m so very sorry to see about your son.

They whipped the cocodamol and ora-morph straight off me understandably post op but just left on Amitriptyline. Everyone just nods it off.

I’m going to try the CM charity/society with my daft query.
