UTI & sudden increase in blood pressure

I’ve had a UTI for a few days now - left a sample into the GP and got started on nitrofurantoin yesterday morning (3 day course) i was very uncomfortable with lots of tenderness and swelling round my stomach. I started to feel better yesterday though and this morning until lunchtime. After lunch my lower abdomen feels very sore and swollen again, i have a feeling of pressure in my groin and pain in my lower back. Feels a lot like a heavy period actually.

I need to give the medicine more time to work i know but what’s worrying me is i started to feel a bit odd - headachy and just a bit strange, sort of spacey. I took my blood pressure (we have a home monitor due to DH high bp so i keep an eye on my own too and it’s usually normal) and it’s quite high -143/102.

My question is, are the two things related? Maybe the pain causes the raise in blood pressure? I’m having a lie down now in the hope everything calms down a bit.

being in pain will definitely raise blood pressure.

3 days seems short to me.

I'd give yourself 48h from starting the nitrofurantoin. If there's no improvement, I'd go back to the GP. Kidney problems and high BP can be related.

Thank you both. The UTI seems to be clearing well now, it’s taken a day or two to figure out what the problem is but i suspect the nitro might be irritating my gallbladder (I have stones and waiting for removal) the lower abdominal pain isn’t too bad but it’s left the very distinctive band of gallbladder pain around the bottom of my ribs. My BP went back down to normal after a few hours yesterday.
