Norethisterone- advice if to take for hen?

My friends have organised my hen do abroad Friday - Monday in May. I'm due to start my period on the Saturday.
I currently get hideous period pains and heavy bleeds. I also get very bad bloating in the days leading up to my period. I'm looking to start norethisterone on the Tues/ Wed and finish on the Sunday to ensure I'm not on during my hen.

What's everyone's experience been on this delay pill for the first time? I'm nervous about using it without trial but currently don't have any other options!

I'm currently being seen by fertility clinic and am looking to try and get pregnant after my hen do. Doctor seemed to think no issues with taking norethisterone on fertility for the coming months. Have suspected endometriosis.

Would appreciate any advice!!! Don't want to ruin the weekend of a lifetime

It certainly worked for me and delayed it BUT when the delayed period did finally arrive the cramps were a lot more painful. It was a bit worrying but I read on here that was quite a common side effect. So just be prepared and get some ibuprofen at the ready just in case

It worked textbook for me, was also nervous as hadn’t taken it before and very much needed it to work!

I used it a few months ago for a weekend away. My periods were so awful I doubted it would work but it did, completely. I did get a bit of a headache though, not sure if that was the reason but it is a known side effect.

It's either well fit me with no adverse affects afterwards. Period was the same as normal just delayed 😁

WhatMe123 · 14/04/2025 17:49

It's worked well for me I meant 🙄

I used it for a camping trip amd it worked perfectly. I did get terrible pmt when I stopped it though, or that could have been all the stress from camping with small kids!

I’ve used it a couple of time because my DP and I are both divorced and both have our kids a lot and it’s rare that we get a chance for a sleepover 😬

Worked perfectly, it did give me a sore tummy towards the end of taking it both times. Was worth it though.

They usually advise that you’ll get your usual PMS symptoms while you’re on it, and then a worse period afterwards.

It didn’t affect me but I didn’t get any PMS symptoms anyway.

I wouldn’t take it if you want to TTC though, it does mess around with your cycle.

Thanks so much for the feedback!! Did you notice severe bloating (worse than period)? How did you find the period after you stopped taking them? Would be good to get some feedback from someone who has terrible period pains also! And was the next period after that like? Was it regular?
