Keto/ low carb vegetarian diet for epilepsy

Hi all

I've had epilepsy years and now cancer treatment and wondered whether anyone had any suggestions for a ketogenic foods or low carb/ modified atkins. I am veggie (vegan) and eat quite well, not many UPFs or white flours, and very little alcohol.

Breakfast I tend to have kefir, berries, cacao, seeds and a banana, that's a bit of a habit
Lunch and dinner home made but can be anything.

When dieting previously, shiritaki noodles and salads have been a big thing plus eggs so I think I can do it fairly easily, just wondering whether there were any particular tips! I don't really want to use any of the bought foods, high protein protein shakes etc foods, more of a homemade way of possible.

I have seen threads bit I think more for children with really frequent seizures

Bit tricky if vegan but I’d suggest avocados, olives, and homemade paleo granola (mainly consists of nuts).

This woman is a keto vegan. Her 1g of carb flatbreads are great.

Is a keto diet appropriate for your cancer? Some do well on keto, some it can have a negative effect on.

I’d highly recommend asking your epilepsy team to refer you to a specialist dietitian. They can give you specific advice and monitor your nutritional status.

Im so sorry you have so much to be dealing with health-wise, I hope your treatment goes well and the diet can have a positive effect also.

This chef has some great recipes. I’ve got a few of her books. I’ve had a quick flick through and lazy keto seems to have more veggie recipes. Keto kitchen has a few too.

Olinas simply seed crackers (original) are great for something to give some crunch and 4 of them are only 1.2g carb. Tom kerridge has a recipe for flaxseed crackers too that are as good if you can be bothered to make them.

Soups are a good thing to make and portion out so you have a few meals made in one go (Stilton and broccoli, Cauli and cheddar, celeriac etc).
I tend to make a big bowl of coleslaw too so I have a side dish ready for days I can’t be bothered.
Egg, cheese and veggie muffins are also a good thing to make ahead.
If you want something else crunchy then cutting slices of cheese and baking them in The oven to dehydrate them make a nice alternative to crisps.

This thread has very low carb/keto products in it..
