What could be the cause if not cancer?

DH has lost his appetite and a substantial amount of weight 2stone) in 6months, small amount of red blood in stool. Dr has done bloods (clear) MRI contrast (clear) and an endoscopy (not clear enough so second one scheduled). I'm worried about it being cancer obviously, but worrying isn't helping, he's telling me not to be silly and maybe he's right.

I'm hoping some people can reassure me that it could be something else so I can get through the next few weeks without this hanging over me as inevitable.

Thanks in advance.

Constipation and piles/a fissure? Could also explain why the endoscopy didn't find anything.

Would that cause loss of appetite though? He was very affected by COVID. Had bouts of crippling long COVID that would put him in bed for weeks at a time every time he cought a cold. This lasted on and off for 18 months. Stopped abruptly two christmases ago.

Chrohns disease?
or celiac disease?
Have male friends that developed both in their 40’s, both had similar symptoms with big weight losses. Both got it under control now.

Could he be depressed, that can cause lack of appetite and staying in bed and men often will not say as not socially acceptable / not to worry others. I would do tests though for other causes. If it is depression then access counselling, anti depressants if needed and exercise helps and reduces risk of illness, just gentle like walking around gardens could be a start.

This is interesting. I have been wondering if he had some depression. He's not as happy as he was, less motivated and happy, snappy and grumpy. I've already talked to him about it and he doesn't want to do anything about it. He says he is 'sad' but feels like he 'should' be sad because sad things have happened. It caused a bit of a row actually because I said I was disappointed that he didn't seem to care that it was effecting people around him. In similar circumstances, I went and got CBT precisely so I could function properly.

I never put the two sets to symptoms together.

Although I'm certain the bed bound thing was not depression. He was having physical symptoms at the time. Breathlessness, brain fog, extreme exhaustion he was hospitalised twice because the Dr was concerned about his breathing. It always happened after catching the latest virus, his immune system just overreacted everytime.

I’m not a doctor but it could be autoimmune. As others have said, coeliac, chronhs, but there are many others - push for a full autoimmune panel. Also could be H Pylori - I had it and it was horrible in my digestive system )it’s also a common cause of bleeding. Good luck

I have had similar symptoms for 6 months or so. Had a colonoscopy recently which found colitis so now waiting to find out what I do about it. I’ve been exhausted and was scared I had bowel cancer (lots of blood in stool). I thought that after my result I’d feel better but I’m still tired as hell all the time. Fingers crossed you figure it out.
