DS has white tongue - could it be anything other than thrush?

My DS (21 months) hasn't been himself for the last few days - we thought it was teething because he's been putting his hands in his mouth and dribbling a lot. He's been getting upset really easily but calpol seems to help.

But I've noticed he has a white tongue - like a white film all over it with very small red spots. Just been reading up on it and wondered if it might be thrush. He won't let me put anything in his mouth to see if it rubs off so I can't be sure.

I have some thrush treatment from when he had it when younger, wondered if I should try that or whether we need to go to the doctor again in case its something else.

It could be thrush. you could take him to chemist and show it to pharmacist and they can advise you on treatment.

could be thrush. Could be hand foot and mouth. Does he have any spots on his hands, feet or bottom?

He does have a couple of spots on his wrist and some near his elbow - we assumed they were just little bites or something. The ones on his wrist itch him a bit sometimes. None on his feet or bottom though.

Might take him to the pharmacist and see if they can help before doctor.
