Eye infections maybe twice a year. Hate them! Nothing works!

I’ve got an eye infection coming on, I can feel it - that sore feeling before they properly get annoying. I get them about twice a year. The eye drops never seem to work!

I can’t figure out what happened this time, or why I get them so much. I’ve pretty much given up eye makeup so it’s not that.

I do work with children though, and wonder if I rubbed my eye when my hand wasn’t clean or something. I try never to do this though, as I’m paranoid about eye infections as I get them a lot!

Does anyone else have this? infections about twice a year for no apparent reason?

What works on shortening their annoyingness?

I was getting repeated eye infections and it turned out that my tear ducts were blocked and therefore nothing was draining away from my eyes.

@mynameiscalypso how did you establish that was the issue please and what was the treatment

mynameiscalypso · 24/03/2025 22:24

@Changingforthisone25 It was noticed by an optician and I was referred to an ophthalmologist. It was quite obvious when she took pictures of my eyes that it was totally blocked. I think I had a mix of oral antibiotics, steroids (I think oral) and eye drops.

I’m just over an eye infection..
I was prescribed steroids & antibiotics, infection was quite bad , missed 3 days work & was housebound with it ..
Never gotten before & today i could feel same eye in same place getting sore again !
literally finished antibiotics yesterday..
Last year I got a cold sore & the minute I finished the Zovirax tablets , cold sore back , this happened for about 6 weeks until doc prescribed like 10 Zovirax tabs a day , he said had to hit it hard ..
Now this thing with the eye , I’m starting to wonder am I low in something important…

“Dry eye” condition may be contributing ?

Have you been to GP? They can refer you to eye specialist for tests.
