Update on dh, not anaemic but oncologist comes up with more treatment

well, we have to hand it to our oncologist. She has managed to find a third line treatment for dh that will hit both his primary in the pancreas and his tumours in the bowel. As it is licenced for use in the bowel, and she has shown that his bowel cancer markers have risen, she can get the treatment for him without getting comittee approval.

so, not only is this woman a great medic , but she also knows how to play the system and is really pulling out all the stops for dh.

and she also thinks that he is still well enough to get some benefit from the treatment, which gave me (and dh) a bit of a lift.

so a good outcome.

No esults on his breathing problems, they may do another scan to look at pleural effusion

Oh, MB I am so glad to hear that. It is worth so much to have doctors that really go the extra mile for you.

She sounds magnificent MB
I do hope you come up with some concrete results, and hopefully treatment, for Mr MB's breathing problems soon X

I really hope that Mr MB gets some benefit out of this. Lovely to hear a positive story about the care he is getting.

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 12:29

Buda · 13/05/2008 12:40

That sounds positive MB. The doc sounds fantastic.

Fingers crossed that the treatment helps loads and that they sort the breathing issues.

Elibean · 13/05/2008 13:14

Oncologist sounds wonderful, plus I'm not at all surprised at her wanting to pull out all stops for you two. I would, if I were a wonderful oncologist

What is the treatment, out of interest, MB, if you don't mind me asking?

Really hope the breathing gets sorted soon, that does sound unpleasant.

PollyLogos · 13/05/2008 13:20

It's great that she is prepared to investigate and initiate new lines of treatment. It must be encouraging that she is so supportive.

Hope it all goes well with as few side effects as possible.

Bridie3 · 13/05/2008 13:22

She sounds like a fantastic doctor.

MB how did you refrain from flinging your arms around the oncologists neck and snogging her for all you're worth?

Or did you?

Really great news.

Weegiemum · 13/05/2008 14:16

Great news MB. Anything that gives you more quality time is such a good thing.

Nice to hear a positive doctor story!

soapbox · 13/05/2008 14:18

MB - that is good news.

I think lady luck was shining on you when you found that consultant!

Shame she didn't show her face a little earlier in proceedings though!

Blandmum · 13/05/2008 16:24

re how is he on a day to day basis.

Often very tired he needs to sleep in the day
Sometimes in pain, if we get on top of the pain he tends to feel better
He is still enjoying his food and we seem to have sorted out his nausea
Breathless and unable to walk any distance, but the Mac nurse dropped off a wheelchair this afternoon, so that will help us get out a bit more

Somedays are good and we can get out for a coffee and/or lunch, other days are harder

So his quality of life is significantly impaired, but he still has some Quality of life IYSWIM

Oh poor dh, mb.
How does he feel about using a wheelchair?
Glad to hear he still feels he has a good quality of life in the circs.
How are the children doing?
