Migraine and IBS sufferers - best magnesium supplement

I want to try magnesium to help my migraines. I have IBS and my tummy is ultra sensitive - I take Laxido daily which helps. I remember trying big magnesium tablets years ago that gave my tummy discomfort.

Any specific recommendations please? I need it gentle on tummy, no sweeteners, nothing that makes me sleepy as my Utrogestran already knocks me out. Am so overwhelmed with all the different types. Open to drops /powder which I usually tolerate better than capsules.

Magnesium has laxative properties. Are you sure you want to take it if you have IBS?

Don’t take magnesium citrate as that is likely to irritate your stomach. Magnesium glycinate is the one that is worth trying. Just to warn you, for some people magnesium can actually make migraines worse not better so watch out for that!

Magnesium glycinate makes you sleepy. I would NOT take that with utrogestan, I speak from experience!

Try magnesium malate and take it in the morning as it can give you energy.

You could try magnesium cream/spray on the skin which absorbs better.

I use the magnesium butter from Sweet Bee Organics (rub on my feet every night before bed). I’m on HRT (patches - estradiol and norethisterone) and the combination of these has definitely helped both my sleep and my hornonal-induced migraines. I regularly go 3, 4 or even 5 months between migraines now, compared to 3-weekly previously.
