Hi has anyone else had haemophilus influenza type b. A sputum test has revealed I have it after being quite unwell over the last week with fevers and aches, and generally not myself for the last month.

interenet tells me it can be quite serious is children get it. My two children have been vaccinated against it when younger.

my gp has provided me with antibiotics and told me to keep an eye on how I am.

i have read that close contacts to me may need antibiotics. Dd is slightly chesty and I will be keeping an eye on her.

has anyone else had this and their family given antibiotics as a precaution?

thankyou

Yes, though I refused to take the antibiotics as I was pregnant at the time. No swab was offered to check if I carried it first. The antibiotics were taken by the rest of of the family and just turned tears and everything orange, but otherwise, it wasn't a big deal. It can be very serious as it can lead to meningitis. I'd definitely be watchful and isolate at home.

@farmlife2
rang 111 this morning who advised me
to ring pharmacy for advice as 111
alsonhad information saying contacts should also have antibiotics.

pharmacy weren’t concerned in the slighted and said they only give antibiotics for those confirmed

there is no way my young child would be able to complete the sputum test
