Weird virus - would you go back to the GP?

I've been feeling rubbish for about 10 days ago. Started with sinusitis - annoying but not generally a big deal - and has progressed into some weird virus since that's affecting my whole body. I went to the GP last week and ended up being sent to A&E because my heart rate was very high (>120 bpm). Had a number of tests there (blood, urine, x ray, ecg) and was given two bags of fluids. Blood tests were a bit all over the place but indicative of some kind of virus/infection. Discharged with antibiotics and I've been recovering at home since.

Thing is, I'm not getting much better. Some of the symptoms have resolved (my temp is normal generally now, last week it was either a mild fever or below 36o. My heart rate is generally below 100 now per my Apple Watch (which I know is not accurate per se but it gives the relative rate to last week when it was high so I can see it has come down)).

I still have/getting worse:
Viral rash, all over my body (blanching) and very itchy. The doctors looked at this in A&E and weren't worried but it's very annoying and doesn't respond to anti-histamines
Intense pain every time I move my limbs, it's like a wave of lactic acid comes over them when I try to do anything, even lifting up my arms or moving from sitting to standing.
Feel very weak, maybe more dizzy today than other days and very fatigued.
I'm trying to drink lots of fluids but I'm not sure my urine output matches that.
My blood pressure is at the lower end of normal but it generally runs a bit high so it's quite low for me.

It feels like it would be sensible to see the GP tomorrow but would they think I was wasting their time given A&E saw me on Weds?

Thank you!

It wasn't chicken pox was it?

I'm still suffering into week two with that. Thought was hives at first as not all spots looked cp typical.

I've had it before as have my kids.

I'm feeling worse this week

yellowpostitnote · 09/03/2025 12:21

Or Covid?

mynameiscalypso · 09/03/2025 12:22

Nope, not chicken pox. And the hospital ruled out Covid / flu / RSV etc.

I would speak to gp tomorrow as the pain is strange too

Not shingles?

yellowpostitnote · 09/03/2025 12:25

I appreciate it's hard to know what to do; I was dithering about gp as was convinced it was hives despite anti histamines not working. At that point I just felt a bit tired.

In the end even the gp missed it and I was seen at a walk in for a repeat visit relating to something else and they diagnosed CP

mynameiscalypso · 09/03/2025 12:30

@yellowpostitnote thank you for the suggestions. I had thought about shingles but the rash is not the same at all (two doctors have looked at it now) and it's all over my body. I've had CP and it doesn't look like that either but the more you mention your experience, I am wondering if the CP virus is appearing in me in a strange way (should have added that I have a dodgy immune system as it is). Hope you feel better soon!

Could the rash be Vasculitis? It looks like a septicemic rash, and can itch. It's usually on the lower body, but can go elsewhere. It's caused by a virus in most cases.

yellowpostitnote · 09/03/2025 12:48

Are or have any of them been blisters or oozing yellow liquid?

mynameiscalypso · 09/03/2025 14:03

Thanks both - the rash itself is very dull, not blisters, doesn't look like anything concerning, just widespread and annoying. None of the docs who have seen it have said it was anything other than a usual viral rash.

I had this and GP was stumped. It was terrible. I went to acupuncturist and they gave me a ton of help which really turned it around.

good luck. So sorry you going through this.
