Reasons for hair loss?

Hi all,

My hair has been rapidly falling out. I have posted previously under a different username.

My hair is now like this when I tie it back and only have a fine sort of baby hair at the front (I think it'll be a bald patch soon). It's coming out all the time, washing it is horrid because it comes out a lot then. If I run my hands through my hair it just falls out etc I put my jumper over my head the other day and it came out even then. Not in clumps but a lot of long strands just from being touched a bit.

Any ideas?

Some have suggested post partum but my DD is 2. Some suggested stress but I've not been stressed particularly.

Iron and B12 all ok.

I'm getting so down about it. I don't know if it's worth seeing my GP and if I do what on earth can they do about it?!

Thank you.

Check your iron levels this happened me when I was low. Started a daily iron tablet and it's improving

When you say your iron levels are OK, what are they? The NHS thinks the lowest possible in the range is OK, when it's not if you are having symptoms like tiredness, no energy, hair loss etc. etc. What about thyroid function, how's that? Again it could be at the lowest end of the range but be considered OK too.

There is some underlying cause. Go back to GP and insist on an answer. BTW I had similar hair loss when my haemoglobin was very low. All back to normal now after needing an iron infusion, but GP said it was ok in the reference range! Went private in the end, couldn't stand it anymore. Good luck.
