5yo DD frequently needing to urinate. Not always able to. Test of urine has ruled out UTI. What do I do now?

DD is 5 years old. For over a month, on and off, she has been going to the toilet frequently. She complains that she isn't always able to go or else she feels the urge again as soon as she has been.

I finally took her to see the nurse, about 2 weeks ago and she tested her urine and then sent it away to be tested in a lab. It came back with the all clear.

She doesn't seem to be in any pain and is able to play happily. All the times I have had cystitis, I know I have been so uncomfortable I could not function normally at all until it had been treated.

I don't know what to do now. Should I go back to the doctor? What can they do? What could be causing her to frequently feel the urge to urinate?

Help!

My DS1 (now 11) has suffered in a similar way on and off since he was roughly 5. Last year when it got particularly bad (he was getting horrific mood swings with it) he was tested and UTI and diabetes were ruled out. Anxiety was suggested as the likely cause (he has nothing particular on his mind, he is just a born worrier like me!).

I'd watch for patterns and see what triggers this behaviour? It could be anxiety, as Ria says.

she does need to see a doctor.
