Stupid injury - 111 says A&E but seems excessive

Slipped over about 2 weeks ago and in throwing out my arms to catch my balance, smacked my hand into a wall.
One of my fingers has been pretty painful since - I've had it strapped up most of the time but that was making the finger I had it strapped to very stiff.
I've unstrapped it today. I can bend it but not properly - middle knuckle feels very 'tight'. There's no bruising, it's a bit swollen, and I can use it but it's a bit painful and clicky.

Put the symptoms through the 111 online and that directed me to go to A&E but it seems like a lot of fuss. Is it worth trying minor injuries (a faff to get to), or just restrap it? Or suck it up and do as directed - I'd be waiting hours.

Minor injuries if they have an X-Ray is what I would do. Hope it feels better soon.

You need your fingers, and if it’s still not working after a fortnight then it would be wise to follow the advice. Minor injuries is likely to be quicker than A&E.

Fingers you do need to get seen as if broken and it heals wrong, it can screw up dexterity in that hand for life.

Not a&e, but definitely a walk in centre or minor injuries unit

Is your A and E a big one with streaming? If so head there and you are likely to be put in the fracture stream which will be quite quick.
Alternatively, ask your GP for an X-Ray request form and have it checked that way.

But do get it checked as any break not healing correctly can cause long-term issues.

Thanks for all the speedy feedback.
My A&E does seem to do triage and streaming - DH had to go there last year with an eye issue and they got him sorted quite quickly.

We don't have a local walk-in and minor injuries is much further away than A&E. Will see if DH can drop me over there (A&E) later today as I can't see that the minor injuries place does x-rays.
