Does anyone know what this means on a swab result?

I had my arm swabbed at the GP’s as got an infection that wasn’t clearing after a course of antibiotics. I get the first part (see photo), but what does ‘overlong lines have been split into multiple lines after 70 chars’ mean?

Does anyone know what this means on a swab result?

They found a Staph infection and have listed the antibiotics that will treat it.

You have MRSA staph infection,
I carry it on my skin ( many people do naturally) but when it infects the skin, only certain antibiotics will treat it.

The report doesn’t have lines greater than 70 characters long.

LittleGreenDuck · 20/02/2025 18:31

It's referring to the formatting of the report. If a line of text is over 70 characters long, it's been split into multiple lines.

Not relevant to your gammy arm, which needs antibiotics to clear up the infection.

BansheeOfTheSouth · 20/02/2025 18:34

You have a Staph A infection and the two antibiotics listed as sensitive are the ones you should/will be prescribed. The others listed don't work as it's a multi resistant strain.

Thanks all, they gave me Flucloxacillin initially on 7th Feb and did a swab. They phoned me on the Monday (10th), to change to Clindamycin as the first swab came back resistant to Flucloxacillin but sensitive to Clindamycin. I went back on Monday as no better. They did another swab (this one), and extended the Clindamycin course.

Then they rang me today to say they needed to change it again.

It's a formatting thing. Technical not medical. Someone explained upthread
