Ovarian cyst- waiting time for removal?

Hi all,
At 20 I had a 13cm dermoid cyst removed from my right ovary. At 22, I had a 6cm dermoid cyst and a mucunous cystadenoma removed from my right ovary.
I’m 27 now and haven’t had a period in months, accompanied by lower back ache and a pelvic pain. This has intensified the last 2 weeks and I can barely sleep with the pain. I look about 6 months pregnant and can’t empty my bowels without laxatives. When I do go, I get an awful stabbing pain in my ovary. GP referred me for an urgent scan which is scheduled in 2 weeks but the pain was so horrible last night that I ended up booking a private scan for this morning.

The ultrasound showed I have a 4cm cyst on the right ovary which the sonographer believes is a simple fluid cyst with possible solid pieces inside and a thin septation. However all of my previous cysts were believed to be simple cysts on ultrasounds until an mri scan showed they weren’t.

I was wondering has anyone else experienced this and how long did you wait to have it removed? My first surgery was an emergency one after visiting A&E as it had twisted and the second was done while working abroad so only waited 2 weeks. I’m a single parent to a 11mo and 3yo and I really don’t know how I can cope with this awful daily pain for months on end. 😭

Any advice or personal experiences appreciated!

I waited 18 months ,it was meant to be done within 6 weeks 'urgently.'

@TeaRoseTallulah That’s horrendous! Would you mind me asking how big yours was? I would get it done privately if I had the money. 😫

I have a 5cm endometrioa that I am waiting for removal well it was 5cm last July so it may have grown I'm on the list now and have been told 3-6 months for it to be removed which was in January. I'm not sure if this is the same etc but my last period was horrific the pain was unbearable I was in bed for for 2 days so I am not sure if mine is worse etc.

It will be months. Could you have endometriosis? It's a relatively small cyst and not twisted so perhaps it's not the source of the pain? Could you go on the pill in the meantime? I understand that it's no longer required to have breaks between packs so you wouldn't have to worry about periods at all.

8cm, it was a dermoid cyst and am post menopausal so definitely needed to come out asap.

Thanks all. 😊My previous cysts have always been estimated a lot smaller via ultrasound than what they actually were. The sizes and type of cyst were only diagnosed correctly via MRI (they’ve always grown at the back of the ovary in the pouch of Douglas so maybe that’s why). They mentioned during my latest c section I have a lot of pelvic adhesions so could be that what’s causing it to feel more painful.

I’ve found a private MRI package plus report for £350 nearby so if the pain becomes worse, I’ll try and save up for that.

Was also wondering which pain medication you found best? GP prescribed nepraxon which hasn’t helped. She suggested coedine but when I took it previously, it made me constipated which made the pain worse.

Thanks again!

@Beeloux how have you got on now?

I had the nhs scan at the beginning of March where they confirmed it was a dermoid cyst and had grown slightly in the 2 weeks.

Been referred to the gynaecologist but haven’t heard a peep since. 😫I’m saving up for an MRI so hoping if I have the results and it’s grown, they may speed the process up a bit! Xx

Oh dear... Hope it's not too long a wait for you!

Are you still in the same level of pain?

Thanks @Pelvicpaininthebum, hopefully not too long! 😊❤️

The pain seems to have subsided a bit. Feels more like a constant dull period ache and backache but not as bad as before. I did have a few days of heavy bleeding where it was really painful but since then it hasn’t been so bad. I’ve been wondering if it’s ruptured on it’s own. Xx
