I have never been a big drinker, but love a good glass or 2 of wine. Recently, I seem to be having a bad reaction to anything I drink - doesn't seem to matter what. After 1 glass I go straight to headache which them persists for up to 2 days despite pain killers.
Feel silly going to GP - I am guessing I have soem problem metabolising the alcohol. Anyone able to shed any light?
Otherwise I'm pretty fit and healthy.
Thanks

Drink plenty of water before, and try half a glass instead of a whole one. Also, make sure it's not on an empty stomach. Wine is much stronger these days than it used to be. I can't drink v much either; I start throwing up after about 3 glasses. So I just limit it.

Could you have a liver infection ?
Or if your health is generally a bit below par, then your body won't cope with -poison- alcohol as easily as it usually does.

Thanks both - I'm actually pretty healthy and don't think I have any infection, so perhaps it's just age....

Same thing here. My (self!!) diagnosis is that I just have a low tolerance to wine. I never drink much anyway, just enjoy a glass or two now and again, but sometimes it leaves me with a really bad headache and even throwing up. It feels as though there;s a gradual accumulation of toxins in my body, and every so often I just need a couple of weeks totally off the wine to 'clear' my body.
BTW - gin is good - doesnt seem to have this effect

you may, like Asians, have a mutated form of alcohol dehydrogenase. Ethanol basically is not metabolised so you get pissed, and stay that way, for longer!!
