chicken pox - catching it with a baby?

Hello, I have a 7 week old baby and due to go to some friends tomorrow evening with the baby. They have just let me know their 4 year old has the pox, and therefore their 2 year old contagious. Am I being paranoid about not taking the baby with me. I don't really want any chance of introducing him. NHS direct tells me it's airborne therefore even if they don't meet the baby he can get it but any thoughts anyone. just wanting reassurance really that I haven't blown them out unnecessarily!
thanks for your help

I would not go with a 7 week old. Simple as!

I think seven weeks is a bit young. DS1 had them at 4 and get them to ds2 at 7mths but as he was 10 weeks premature, really only 4and a half months.

He was covered in spots, there was a small patch on his cheek the size of a 5p that was clear. He wasn't too ill with them and didn't seem to scratch or itch.

My concern would be that the spots might get into your child's mouth and affect his feeding/weight gain which might be a cause for concern at only seven weeks.

Ere on the side of caution.
