Anyone any experience of brain abscess please?

My poor dh has had two lots of brain surgery
In two weeks to drain an infected abscess on his brain.

He will be at the hospital for a good 2 weeks this time I think.

Just wondering had anyone been through this and did you find out what was causing it? The doctors can't pin point the source which is why it came back

It's frustrating and frightening in equal measures.

What a worrying situation. I have no experience but am just bumping it for you.

Bump too!

Hug going to you OP.

Thanks - I managed some sleep tonight at an air BnB so that's good. We are 4 hours away from home and had to leave kids with granny and older DS which isn't nice.

Dh has been amazing coping with the operations I feel so sorry for him.

Thinking of you, OP. How incredibly difficult all round.

SauvignonBlanche · 04/02/2025 13:29

I’m sorry to hear that.

I had a scary brain abscess which caused me to have a seizure and lose sensation on the opposite side.

Mine was following a craniotomy for removal of a brain tumour and the bone flap got infected so had to go back to theatre and have it removed but then developed the abscess following that.

I was on strong IV antibiotics for 6 weeks, eventually having them at home.

It must be a scary time for you, I hope your DH is in good hands.

Im absolutely fine now btw, these do not necessarily leave long term effects.

Thank you yes his symptoms were similar, loss of feeling in one side and awful headaches

We can't get to the bottom of it and they are now refusing to do the heart scan they wanted as he "doesn't fit the criteria"
They think the bacteria might be coming from a hole in his heart. If that doesn't fit I don't know what would. ☹️

Might have to have words tomorrow.... not too happy.

In all other areas the hospital and staff have been fantastic.

Glad the care is good, OP. Hope you make progress with the scan asap.
