Red puffed face, slitty eyes, itchy rash on body. What could this be?

My ds(5) is covered in a raised tiny spotted speckly red rash. His cheeks are scarlett and itchy so are his ears. His eyes are a bit puffed and slitty. He's no more grumpy and tetchy than usual.

He was out in the sun for a bit yesterday but it doesn't look like sun burn., and is really itchy.

I've covered him in Calamine, and my dh has made a doc appointment (I wouldn't have, but I'm too laid back)

Any suggestions?

I was going to say sun - sounds like sun - could it be something like prickly heat (talking out of hat here)?

Good idea to see doctor I think. Sounds like an allergy, perhaps heat rash, (that can be awfully itchy!) perhaps he has come into contact with some plants that don't agree with him. Is the appt for today? would be best if it is I think.

Sounds just like when I got hayfever, especially when I was little... if it is, Piriton or some similar child-friendly anti-histamine would be appropriate (but I'd check with the doctor first!)

Yep appointemnt is for today. He looked really red yesterday...they will prob tell me its a 'virus' sheesh.... I hate it when they say allergy because its impossible to pin point the cause.

Sounds like an allergic reaction. My DS was like this with certain cats and also if he was out in cut grass.

Maidamess - you can get them allergy tested. If you're concerned, get a referral to a dermatology clinic from your GP.

What was the verdict maidamess?

Iota · 08/05/2008 12:51

slapped cheek is doing the rounds in my children's school at thr moment - it could be that

maidamess · 08/05/2008 22:27

kitten, the doc gave him anti histimine and penicillin cos he was all puffed up in his glands. The rash is still itchy, and a bit raised so i am liberally coting him in calamine.

Thanks for asking! x
