Negative FIT test but referred to secondary care

Hello. Looking for reassurance!
I’ve noticed possible blood in stools (on and off.) I’ve had a FIT test and had results back as negative (even though I’m sure I’ve seen blood at times.) Despite negative result, I’m being referred to secondary care.
mode anyone know why this might be?

Look at the nice guidelines for referral and see what matches or ask your GP

A negative FIT test isn’t a guarantee that you don’t have bowel cancer or anything else like IBD. Only a colonoscopy can detect that and as your symptoms still persist - they have put you for further investigation. Don’t worry, most people who have blood in their stools don’t have bowel cancer.

I had blood in my stools as well as abdominal cramping, mucus, weight loss and indigestion. Went for the colonoscopy despite the negative FIT test and nothing was found.
