Does this seem a high dose of antibiotics?

I’ve been to my GP this morning as the skin condition I have on my arms is getting worse more red, hot and swollen.

I’ve been given some steroid tablets as my asthma is playing up a bit too after a cold, and he said they will help with my skin. But also been given flucloxacillin and he said he’s given me a double dose and I have to take 2, 4 times a day. It just seems a lot.

The number of tablets is irrelevant. What is the total daily dose in mg?

It's easy to check the dosage online.

What makes you think your GP is incompetent?

I was recently on 500mg tablets and was told to take two tablets four times a day, which the leaflet said was higher than the 'normal' dose but was confirmed to be what the doctor wanted.

My dh had double dose recently prescribed - 1g x 4 times a day.
I think he had the same as yours and he had to have it on an empty stomach.

Yep I the same dose recently for cellulitis.
cleared it up quickly, so real side effects except gripy stomach.

Thanks all, yes it’s 2x500mg four times a day. I’ve just never had more than 1 x 500mg before. Yes it’s is for a skin infection.

@Semiramide no I don’t think my GP is incompetent far from it, it just seemed a lot.

1g four times a day is a standard dose for a nasty skin infection. I am a Nurse Practitioner and prescribe this regularly for my patients with cellulitis or wound infections.
