Worried about cancer in my neck

I’m so worried and can’t stop thinking about this.
I have got a few things going on in my neck and ears and I’m convincing myself that I’ve got cancer.

Both of my ears are very blocked and full of wax. It’s been like this for a while now. I sometimes get pain and itchiness in my ears too.

I have a swollen lymph node behind my right ear. The lymph node is painless, and big enough to be able to see under the skin.

I also have a fullness feeling in my neck on the right hand side, so same side as where the lymph node is behind my ear. If I feel my neck on the right hand side, I’m sure I can feel a lump/lymph mode on the right hand side towards the front of my neck. This is also painless.

I’ve now ended up convincing myself that I’ve got tonsil cancer/ lymphoma and that it’s spreading. Or could it be related to the problems I am having with my ears? I saw ENT yesterday about my ears and mentioned about the lump in my neck and the lymph node behind my ear, and the doctor wasn’t concerned about anything. Does this mean I shouldn’t be concerned and settle for it just being to do with my blocked ears, or should I push for a scan?

Why are you not having your ears sorted?

funinthesun19 · 18/01/2025 19:34

I am having them sorted but they want me to carry on a bit longer with the oil first to soften the wax a bit more, and I’m going back in 2 weeks to hopefully have it all removed.

Honestly, if ENT are not concerned I don’t think you have anything to worry about. They are the right specialists I would think.

Professionals have seen you. They are sure of what the cause is and are treating you. If they were concerned they'd have said.

If it's still like that ten days after you get your ears syringed tell your GP.

Lymph nodes swell due to infection. It could be you have a touch of the cold or something. I wouldn't worry though.

ENT are the correct specialty to assess lumps in the neck (most of which will turn out to be reactive lymph nodes or other benign things). If the ENT examined the lump and isn't worried about it, that's great. And if you're going back there in 2 weeks you can absolutely ask them to have another look at it.
