I think I might have a herpes infection in my eye

My eye was very sore when I woke up yesterday morning and by lunchtime I also had a ginormous cold sore on my lip. My eye is still really sore and red - am I being paranoid or is it possible to get a cold sore infection in your eye? I've been feeling really miserable, tired, sore and run down all week and now this - YUK!

Yes, it is possible and it is also serious. You should go and see your GP for this as it can spread into the eye ball. I would phone NHS Direct and get the emergency doctor to have a look at it. It sounds very painful.

Shingles? If so go to the doc IMMEDIATELY if it is in your eye as antivirals only work if taken quickly

When I get a really bad cold sore I also get nerve pain in my face all the way up to my eye. I would definately get it checked out though. Have you been sitting in a draught, that may have caused the coldsore and an eye irritation.
