Low blood pressure- diastolic

JESS1211 · 10/01/2025 15:02

Recently I've noticed that when taking my bp, the bottom number (diastolic) is struggling to get up to 60. Sometimes it's 57, other times 51. So lately my bp has been around 100/55.

I've always had BP at the lower end, but normally 115/65-70.

Does anyone have low BP where your diastolic is less than 60? And if so, do you know what caused it? Should I be worried about this?

To add, I'm 40, normal weight, no health issues

That can be due to underactive thyroid. Easily checked with a blood test.

JESS1211 · 10/01/2025 21:49

@MujeresLibres I will definitely check that. Are there any other really common symptoms?

I have this and my thyroid is fine. My GP did not seem too bothered. Are you getting other symptoms? I get quite dizzy on standing but have been checked for POTS.

Yes. Tiredness, hair falling out, weight gain, feeling cold, depression. Your mileage may vary, though (my hair didn't fall out until after I was diagnosed, and grew back quickly).

@Annoyingsquirrels I also get dizzy on standing sometimes but recently I've noticed I can feel quite breathless.
How low does your bp get and do you get any other symptoms?

About 90 over 50 sitting ( 80 over 40 if lying down) No other symptoms. GP is not concerned at all.

JESS1211 · 12/01/2025 17:12

Today my bp was around 117/65 which is much more like what it was in the past. I check it again tomorrow. I do feel light headed when it drops to around 100/50, but not sure what's causing it.
I'm experiencing some perimenopause symptoms at the moment, could that cause low bp? Anyone?

Bump. Anyone?

I understood most women experience increases in blood pressure due to peri menopause. Having said that mine seemed to drop at this point. In my case I wondered if it was due to having less salt as I cut out upf at the same time. I now add more salt into my cooked meals.

I've read some threads on here that says perimenopause causes a drop in oestrogen, which can cause a drop on BP. Did I mis-read that? I'm not sure whether my BP is something I should worry about. Over the past few days, it's been 107/57 average, I know the bottom number is low. I have terrible HA, I wish I wouldn't worry so much

Yes, my BP and rhr both crashed during perimenopause to the point of being referred and under care of cardiology. Not much in term of treatment, which is the same recommendation than that fir high BP.

I think it was linked to anxiety, indiced by drop of oestrogen.10 years on and it's still low but normal and no symptoms.

JESS1211 · 14/01/2025 15:14

@vivainsomnia thank you for sharing. Can I ask how old you were at the time and how low your bp was? And do you recall feeling breathless during this period?

I was 44 when it started. Went as low as 45/70 at times. Usually under 60/under 90.

JESS1211 · 14/01/2025 15:32

@vivainsomnia that's quite low. At the moment mine is averaging around 100/55, which is still low for me (usually 115/65-70). I'm 42 so could be perimenopause.

Has anyone noticed this as part of perimenopause?

Bump anyone? For a week my bp was back up to 110/65, but this week it's back to 100/54. I don't understand why and it's giving my anxiety. I can feel its low as I feel lightheaded when it happens, which prompts me to check it
