my dd had temperature last night...cried out at night which she never does so ran to her and she seemed to be quite hot. We called doctors and they said to monitor her at home. I have a concert to do this afternoon at place about 20 min. drive away from our house and were going to take her. While I do the concert, DH can look after her and there will be some other babies and kids. Do you think it will excite her and worsen her temperature and it would be better for her to keep her in our house? DH will stay with her at home if she does. She is currently on calpol. What would you do? She never had temperature in her life so we are very worried.

I would keep her home. Might be contagious to the other children, let alone bad for her if she is poorly

Hope she is better soon.

a temperature is the bodies natural method of getting rid of a bug .. it burns them out .. babies get hotter at night

how high is her temp (get a braun ear thermometer)?

does she have any other symptoms? how is she acting .. is she whingy, tired, not herself?

sophiewd · 03/05/2008 09:07

I'd keep her at home.

Twiglett · 03/05/2008 09:08

is she still hot?

if calpol is bringing it down I wouldn't be bothered (I've always found calpol nowhere near as effective as nurofen .. and for bad fevers you can give them both interspersed)

cluckyagain · 03/05/2008 09:13

Keep her at home - personally I'd be naffed off if somebody brought their child with a temperature amongst mine (just as I would if they had a D&V bug) Cold's are fine but temps I think have a different rule - well for me at least.

vampbaby · 03/05/2008 09:18

okay. That's true. It's not fair for her and other kids as well. Calpol is bringing the fever down. She's whingy and wants cuddles but she is eagerly watching night garden DVD. Eating very well. I don't think it can be contagious.

You can't know if it's contagious or not - if you took her to a gathering and then found out a baby there had had a bad night and a fever, would you be pleased?

Sounds like she's not very happy about something. You're only 20 minutes away. Keep her home.

vampbaby · 03/05/2008 09:28

We will definitely be keeping her at home and DH will monitor her. I'm just being selfish and hoping I can check up on her as I'll be away for 6 hours so really want her with me.....but I know that it could be contagious..

She might just be teething but best to be safe. I'd miss mine too

vampbaby · 03/05/2008 09:57

well she has two teeth coming out on the front..could that be?? you can see the white bit till now, but I think it's really starting to come out. I'm going to miss her so much. Can I take her?? please pleaseplease!!!! I bet it's not contagious, no cough or nothing and she's just very clingy but smiles and very normal self. and Calpol brought temperature down really quickly.

Yes you will miss her but she will be better at home then 6 hours at a concert. Especially if you are thinking of taking her to the doctor to check whether she has meningitis.

NurkMagiggy · 03/05/2008 10:46

It sounds like she is just teething, I'd take her and be damned

No need to take to Dr...babies get a lot of temps. It can't always be the big M.
