Anyone an 'expert' on periods? Is this the beginning of the end?

I have always been pretty regular (in tune with the moon, you might say
I'm not on the pill or anything as dh had snip.
So this month period was 2+weeks late. Culd feasibly have been stress as I have been extremely stressed this year. When it came, no cramps or anything (which is unusual) it wasn't especially heavy. But it's lasted almost 2 weeks whereas normally I'm done in 5 days.

I'm 38 this month. Is this the warm-up to menopause or something?

Not sure - might be worth seeing your gp

Not had a period for two years, I am 41.

Up til 3 years ago was regular as clockwork, then periods spaced out over about a year.

Opted not to have tests to see if I am still ovulating, we were not planning any more DCs anyway.

No symptoms, no flushes, or dryness, no horrid mood swings, it's not bad from where I am sitting.

HTH

Get it checked by your GP anyway. I had these symptoms and it was caused by an ovarian cyst. Please don't panic, as I don't want to scare you, but the GP (complete twat) dismissed my symptoms and I ended up having major surgery.

I'm not an expert, but it's always worth being on the safe side.

Take care.

What age did your mum have the menopause? That is supposed to be a fair indication of the age you will be. Not an expert btw.

bossybritches · 01/05/2008 23:09

Not an expert but back & forth to my GP over te last few years with exactly these symptoms. One month I was nearly 2 weeks late ....UNHEARD of except when pg.

At first I was "oh SHIT"

then "Oh well"

then "yippee a late baby!!!!" I was 43

By the time I got to the Gp & had a negative pg test I was SOOOO

She said that well before the menopause you start getting little hormonal "blips" as your ovaries get to the end of their supply of eggs, even if you don't start to hit the menopause for another 5-10 years.

But SubRosa is right if you are worried have a word with your GP- 38 is still very young

Fullmoonfiend · 02/05/2008 08:31

thanks for your responses...My mum was 60ish wehe she started menopause. But my sister is 45 and is in full thoes...so who knows?
I am not particularly hormonal (well, no more than usual. Plus I am taking vitb6 which has helped with PMT hormonal swings) I have no other 'symptoms'.

I am one of these people who doesnt see the doctor until she is dying Plus, if I do go to the docs it really needs to be about my suspected rthritis first...
