Yes

Yes. If it was a mild case the first time there's low immunity to it. It occurs when babies get it, they can get it again.

belgo · 01/05/2008 17:20

it is possible, especially if the first time you had it you were very young (under the age of one), or if you had it very mildly.

schmoopoo · 01/05/2008 17:20

hopefully it won't be too bad if she catches it again.

Some people say no, but speaking from experience, I would say yes! I had it as a baby (Mum took me to Drs who said it was the pox).

I then had it again when aged 22 (again confirmed by GP).

So either:-

a) You can get it twice

or b) One or both of the GPs was incompetent, and thought it was chickenpox when it wasn't.

Incidentally, when I had it aged 22, it was very mild - I hardly felt ill at all.

It is actually worse if you get CP as an adult...my brother's best mate got it just before his final Uni exams..

IIRC the pox is a herpes virus and can manifest itself as shingles in aduts....

gscrym · 01/05/2008 17:26

DS has had it 3 times. All mild cases with a few spots. HV was quite surprised.

re: post - you can get CP twice - brother's friend had the pox when he was small as well as before his exams..
