Duodenitis - consultant says caused by colonoscopy prep?!

I have been having stomach pain and reflux for two years. Tested positive for h pylori in the summer, had the antibiotic treatment and felt better but still had stomach pain despite continued PPIs. Just had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy which showed erosive duodenitis. The biopsies came back normal so ruled out coeliac and h pylori. The consultation wrote a letter telling me this and that he thinks the duodenitis was caused by the bowel prep for the colonoscopy!

This doesn't make sense to me. Erosive duodenitis is consistent with my symptoms for the past two years. How can he say that it was caused by the bowel prep? I feel like I'm being fobbed off.

I'm trying to organise a follow up with him so I can discuss it but likely to be in a month or so.

Is it at all likely that he is correct? It doesn't explain why I've been in so much pain for the last 6 months.
